Human Remains

The transport of human remains, in the form of coffins or ashes, has been made instrumented as an air transport contract in the air cargo mode, AWB. As this has been moved in the hold, regardless of the size of the cargo and according to operating cargo manuals must go with the packaging and documentation required by the country of destination. This operating procedure adopted by the Airlines is in accordance with the IATA Airport Handling Manual AHM 333 standards that specifically "Handling of Human Remains" frames it as air cargo and never as luggage, saying: "...cremated remains must be sent in a funeral urn that is efficiently cushioned by proper packaging, against breakage..".
